As part of our Skills for Life at Work Project we are able to offer 2 days of one-off training or one longer course free of charge to professionals delivering or supporting skills for life learning in the workplace through a Train to Gain contract. This is on the condition that you live or work in the South East of England and that assignments are submitted (non-submission will result in a charge of £100 being levied for the course). By registering on this course you agree to abide by these conditions.
Individuals who have already accessed their quota of training under this project or who do not fit into these criteria will be charged at £90 attendance (to include registration/accreditation).
Aims of Event
The event aims to provide teaching staff of any subject with an understanding of the Numeracy Core Curricula document, including paperbased and online versions.
By the end of the course the learners will be able to:

Explain the key components of the numeracy core curricula and their use in the learning journey

Analyse the use of adult numeracy core curricula in planning and delivery of provision

Explain the use of the numeracy core curricula in relation to own practice.
Throughout the day participants will complete activities that will enable them to:

Familiarise themselves with the paper based and online versions of the numeracy core curricula

Explore practical and interactive strategies for developing numeracy skills

Describe the purpose of the adult numeracy core curriculum within the Skills for Life strategy

Explain the structure and format of the numeracy curriculum document including the referencing system

Identify ways in which the numeracy curriculum documents can support their own work with adults
Intended Audience for Course
This course is aimed specifically at vocational or work-based learning tutors and assessors who support adults with numeracy needs (level 2 and below). It is also appropriate for any Skills for Life staff who have not had any previous training in how to use the core curriculum documents, particularly the new online version.
Assessment
Assessment is through the completion of a short assignment which needs to be completed and submitted within a fortnight of the course date in order to qualify for a funded place on this course. Tutorial support will be available by email, telephone or in person at ESSU.
