Business Link - L3 OCN Introduction to Mentoring Skills

Project
This course is offered under the "Skills for Life at Work" project (formerly known as Basic Skills in the Workplace)
 


Cost
As part of our Skills for Life at Work Project we are able to offer 2 days of one-off training or one longer course free of charge to professionals delivering or supporting skills for life learning in the workplace through a Train to Gain contract.  This is on the condition that you live or work in the South East of England and that assignments are submitted (non-submission will result in a charge of £100 being levied for the course). By registering on this course you agree to abide by these conditions.
 
Individuals who have already accessed their quota of training under this project or who do not fit into these criteria will be charged at £90 attendance (to include registration/accreditation costs). 
 

Aims of Event
This is a 2 day practical introduction to identifying and developing individual mentoring skills and associated aspects including supporting peers/clients/staff, and monitoring and recording their progress.
 

Objectives of Event

By the end of the course the learners will be able to:

v      Demonstrate understanding of what is meant by ‘mentoring’

v      Create a supportive atmosphere which encourages learning and personal growth in others

v      Give support and advice to others

v      Monitor and review the progress and personal growth of others

v      Identify their own self development needs

 


Intended Audience for Course

This course is intended for anyone whose role includes, or is likely to include, mentoring of learners, clients, peers, colleagues or other staff. It is a general course and is not aimed solely at those mentoring other practitioners.

All attendees MUST be able to carry out, at least 2, actual mentoring sessions with a mentee, one of which needs to fall in between the 2 delivery dates of the course. (Between 12th & 26th October)
 


Assessment

The course is an OCN accredited programme at Level 3

Attendees will need to carry out the following assessment tasks:

-          Written Case Study

-          Records of 2 mentoring sessions delivered in their own organisation/context

-          Reflective log and personal action/development plan
 

Progression 

Learners will be signposted to further, higher level, Coaching and Mentoring Programmes within the course delivery.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
